Day 67

A4074

Finding myself with 20 minutes to spare before school pick up, and driving along with camera to hand in case of photo opportunities, I seized the opportunity and pulled into a lorries parking layby on the A4074, a very busy road between Oxford and Reading. I find the views stunning around here in South Oxfordshire but am rarely happy with my landscape attempts. Before really getting to grips with my camera, I found I would just snap away and hope that I would capture on screen what I saw in front of me. Mostly, I was disappointed as the resulting image would not do justice do what I remembered in my minds eye. Since I have thought more carefully about composition before even picking up my camera, I find myself looking for foreground interest to compliment the distant views. Isn’t amazing that scrubby grass blowing in the wind, nestling around a broken fence and all looking tatty in real life, should add so much to the composition? The warm tones of the freshly dug earth alongside the grass and fence, take me to a place far removed from a smelly lorry park.
